Is Drannith Magistrate a Game Changer?

Yes. Drannith Magistrate is on the official Wizards of the Coast Commander Game Changers list. Stops opponents casting from anywhere but hand — including their commanders.

Why is Drannith Magistrate a Game Changer?

For two mana, Drannith Magistrate stops every opponent from casting spells from anywhere other than their hand. In Commander, that means it shuts off the command zone entirely: nobody at the table can cast their commander while it is on the battlefield. Against a deck built around its commander — which is most decks — that is close to a hard lock from a two-drop, and players without immediate removal are left drawing cards they cannot use. Cheap, early, and format-warping in a way its size does not advertise.

What bracket can I play Drannith Magistrate in?

  • Bracket 1 & 2 — not allowed. A single copy of Drannith Magistrate puts your deck above Core.
  • Bracket 3 (Upgraded) — allowed, and it counts as one of your three permitted Game Changers.
  • Bracket 4 & 5 — no limit, so it costs you nothing here.
