Why is Glacial Chasm a Game Changer?

Glacial Chasm prevents all damage dealt to you, which in a format where most decks win through combat means it simply switches off three opponents. The cumulative upkeep and the land sacrifice are real costs, but decks that play it have recursion loops that pay them trivially, at which point it becomes a permanent, uninteractive fog. It denies the most common route to winning a game of Commander from a card type most decks cannot remove.

What bracket can I play Glacial Chasm in?

  • Bracket 1 & 2 — not allowed. A single copy of Glacial Chasm puts your deck above Core.
  • Bracket 3 (Upgraded) — allowed, and it counts as one of your three permitted Game Changers.
  • Bracket 4 & 5 — no limit, so it costs you nothing here.
