Is Consecrated Sphinx a Game Changer?

Yes. Consecrated Sphinx is on the official Wizards of the Coast Commander Game Changers list. Draws you two cards for every card each opponent draws — six per turn cycle in a four-player game.

Why is Consecrated Sphinx a Game Changer?

In a four-player game Consecrated Sphinx draws you six cards per turn cycle before you have done anything yourself, and considerably more against decks with their own draw engines. There is no symmetry and no upkeep cost. Its reputation for having to be answered immediately is entirely deserved: any table that lets it survive a full rotation has effectively conceded the card-advantage game. Six mana is the only thing holding it back, and in a deck with the ramp to deploy it early that restraint disappears.

What bracket can I play Consecrated Sphinx in?

  • Bracket 1 & 2 — not allowed. A single copy of Consecrated Sphinx puts your deck above Core.
  • Bracket 3 (Upgraded) — allowed, and it counts as one of your three permitted Game Changers.
  • Bracket 4 & 5 — no limit, so it costs you nothing here.

This applies whether Consecrated Sphinx is in your 99 or in the command zone. Not sure how many you are running in total? Run your decklist through the analyzer — it flags every Game Changer it finds and shows the resulting bracket.
