Is Chrome Mox a Game Changer?

Yes. Chrome Mox is on the official Wizards of the Coast Commander Game Changers list. A zero-mana rock that trades a card from your hand for permanent acceleration.

Why is Chrome Mox a Game Changer?

Chrome Mox costs no mana and produces mana the turn it lands, which is the defining property of true fast mana. Paying a card for it is a genuine cost, but in a deck built around a fast start it is a trade decks are happy to make: a turn-one Mox turns a three-mana commander into a turn-two play and cascades from there. Cards that cost nothing and accelerate immediately compress the early game in a way that leaves slower decks with no window to act, and that compression is the reason the whole free-artifact family sits on this list.

What bracket can I play Chrome Mox in?

  • Bracket 1 & 2 — not allowed. A single copy of Chrome Mox puts your deck above Core.
  • Bracket 3 (Upgraded) — allowed, and it counts as one of your three permitted Game Changers.
  • Bracket 4 & 5 — no limit, so it costs you nothing here.

This applies whether Chrome Mox is in your 99 or in the command zone. Not sure how many you are running in total? Run your decklist through the analyzer — it flags every Game Changer it finds and shows the resulting bracket.
