Why is Lion's Eye Diamond a Game Changer?

Lion's Eye Diamond is free to cast and produces three mana of one colour, at the cost of discarding your hand. Read fairly it is unplayable; read by a deck with graveyard recursion or an empty hand by design, it is a Black Lotus. That is the pattern behind several cards here — a printed drawback that a purpose-built deck converts into an upside. Combined with recursion it fuels loops that generate arbitrary mana, and it costs nothing to deploy along the way.

What bracket can I play Lion's Eye Diamond in?

  • Bracket 1 & 2 — not allowed. A single copy of Lion's Eye Diamond puts your deck above Core.
  • Bracket 3 (Upgraded) — allowed, and it counts as one of your three permitted Game Changers.
