Is Gamble a Game Changer?

Yes. Gamble is on the official Wizards of the Coast Commander Game Changers list. Red's only unconditional tutor — one mana for any card, with a random discard attached.

Why is Gamble a Game Changer?

Gamble is a one-mana unconditional tutor, which red is not supposed to have. The random discard afterwards is a genuine drawback, but with an empty or near-empty hand it disappears entirely, and decks that play Gamble tend to be the ones emptying their hand quickly. Recursion or a graveyard-based plan removes the downside altogether. Cheap access to any card in the deck is the throughline of every tutor on this list, and Gamble is the cheapest of them.

What bracket can I play Gamble in?

  • Bracket 1 & 2 — not allowed. A single copy of Gamble puts your deck above Core.
  • Bracket 3 (Upgraded) — allowed, and it counts as one of your three permitted Game Changers.
  • Bracket 4 & 5 — no limit, so it costs you nothing here.

This applies whether Gamble is in your 99 or in the command zone. Not sure how many you are running in total? Run your decklist through the analyzer — it flags every Game Changer it finds and shows the resulting bracket.
