Is Farewell a Game Changer?

Yes. Farewell is on the official Wizards of the Coast Commander Game Changers list. Exiles any combination of artifacts, creatures, enchantments and graveyards — with no way to rebuild.

Why is Farewell a Game Changer?

Farewell joined the list in the 9 February 2026 update, and Wizards was explicit about why: it is a reset that leaves nothing behind. Choosing all four modes exiles every artifact, creature and enchantment on the battlefield and every graveyard, so there are no death triggers, no recursion, and no partial recovery — the game restarts from empty boards and whatever is in hand. Gavin Verhey noted that six mana normally earns a card extra scrutiny now, and that Farewell cleared that bar anyway. Worth knowing: it appears in a number of precons, so it is a card plenty of players own without realising it caps their deck at Bracket 3.

What bracket can I play Farewell in?

  • Bracket 1 & 2 — not allowed. A single copy of Farewell puts your deck above Core.
  • Bracket 3 (Upgraded) — allowed, and it counts as one of your three permitted Game Changers.
  • Bracket 4 & 5 — no limit, so it costs you nothing here.

This applies whether Farewell is in your 99 or in the command zone. Not sure how many you are running in total? Run your decklist through the analyzer — it flags every Game Changer it finds and shows the resulting bracket.
