A Heist on the Frontier
Outlaws of Thunder Junction presents Magic's take on the Wild West, complete with outlaws, heists, desert landscapes, and a cast of notorious criminals drawn from across the multiverse. The plane of Thunder Junction was created as a magical frontier — a place where law is thin, opportunity is everywhere, and the most dangerous criminals in the multiverse have gathered to pull off the score of a lifetime.
The Commander precons for Outlaws of Thunder Junction capture different facets of frontier crime: the treasure-hunting rogue, the desert protector, the quick-draw gambler, and the calculating mastermind. Each deck reflects a different criminal archetype while sharing the set's mechanical theme: committing crimes (taking illegal actions) triggers powerful bonus effects.
Most Wanted — Olivia's Criminal Empire
Olivia Voldaren has always been a creature of excess and ambition, but on Thunder Junction she finds a plane that matches her appetite for acquisition. Most Wanted is a Jund (black/red/green) treasure-and-crime deck that rewards committing criminal acts — attacking, targeting opponents, casting spells from exile — with Treasure token generation that fuels increasingly expensive and powerful plays.
The deck functions as a snowballing value engine. Early turns establish the crime-and-treasure feedback loop, and by mid-game, Olivia is converting accumulated Treasure into dramatic actions that opponents struggle to answer. The Jund combination provides aggressive red combat, black's removal flexibility, and green's creature power, ensuring Olivia's criminal operation has the muscle to back up its ambition.
Most Wanted rewards players who enjoy explosive mid-game turns fueled by accumulated resources. The deck feels different from every angle of attack — sometimes you're using your Treasures for card advantage, sometimes you're saving them for a massive late-game play, and sometimes you're spending them defensively to survive long enough to execute your plan.
Desert Bloom — Protecting the Wild Frontier
Not everyone on Thunder Junction is a criminal. Yuma, Proud Protector, represents the frontier's defenders — those who believe the desert's resources belong to everyone and who resist the exploitation that the criminal element brings. Desert Bloom is a Naya (white/red/green) landfall-and-desert deck that harnesses the plane's harsh terrain as a source of power.
The deck's central mechanic rewards playing land cards — especially desert lands — with powerful triggered abilities. Each land drop during Desert Bloom's pilot creates tokens, boosts creatures, or triggers card advantage effects, building a compounding advantage that reflects how the desert landscape sustains and empowers those who know how to work with it rather than against it.
Desert Bloom is an excellent precon for players who enjoy land-centric strategies and finding unexpected synergies between their mana base and their win conditions. The deck's desert lands do double duty as both mana sources and spell components, creating a resource efficiency that pure aggressive decks struggle to match.
Quick Draw — The Fastest Spell in the West
Stella Lee, Wild Card, is Thunder Junction's most enigmatic outlaw — a spellslinger who wins through raw spell velocity. Quick Draw is a Grixis (blue/black/red) deck built around the simple principle that casting multiple spells in a single turn generates increasingly powerful bonus effects. Stella's trigger fires each time you cast your second or more spell in a turn, creating a cumulative advantage that rewards a fast, spell-heavy game plan.
The deck is packed with cheap interaction, card draw spells, and cost-reduction effects that enable casting three, four, or even more spells in a single turn. When Quick Draw fires on all cylinders, each spell cast triggers another effect, which draws more cards, which enables more spells, creating a cascade of value that opponents struggle to interrupt.
Quick Draw rewards spell-sequencing expertise and careful hand management. Knowing which spells to cast in which order to maximize Stella's triggers is the deck's primary skill expression, and experienced pilots will find increasingly creative ways to string together spell chains.
Grand Larceny — The Perfect Heist
Gonti, Canny Acquisitor, is the mastermind of masterminds — a criminal who wins not through force but through possession of everyone else's best cards. Grand Larceny is a Sultai (blue/black/green) deck built around stealing, exiling, and playing opponents' cards against them. This is Commander at its most audacious: your entire game plan is to take what belongs to others.
The deck includes multiple ways to exile cards from opponents' libraries, hands, and graveyards, combined with effects that allow you to cast those exiled cards. Gonti's information advantage — seeing what opponents have before they know you've seen it — translates into always knowing which resource to acquire next.
Grand Larceny rewards players who enjoy reading opponents' decks and adapting their strategy based on what they find. Every game is different because every game you're playing with a different stolen card pool. The deck's high skill ceiling comes from knowing which cards to take, which to ignore, and how to sequence your larceny for maximum impact.
