The 4 decks

Lords of Hel Commander deck box

Lords of Hel

Hela on the box

BlackRed

Tokens and sacrifice

Hela leads a black-red deck that pairs sacrifice effects with token makers, so there is always something to feed the next sacrifice. Hela, Mistress of Darkness from the main set already points the same way: she turns life lost on your turn into 2/2 Zombies.

Midnight Sons Commander deck box

Midnight Sons

Blade on the box

WhiteBlack

Life and Vampires

Blade fronts a white-black deck that gains life through Vampires and other monsters, then spends the surplus on effects that change the board. The packaging pitches it as the deck that outlasts the table.

Gods of Asgard Commander deck box

Gods of Asgard

Thor on the box

RedGreenWhite

Power matters and godlike gear

Thor leads a red-green-white deck that builds a board of creatures with power 4 or greater and rewards having the greatest power at the table, with gear to get there. Expect ramp into large bodies and attacks.

Strange Academy Commander deck box

Strange Academy

Doctor Strange on the box

WhiteBlueBlack

Spellcasters and blink

Doctor Strange heads a white-blue-black deck of spellcasters that enter and leave the battlefield again and again, repeating their enters-the-battlefield effects through portals.

Colours and themes are printed on the boxes. Each deck has 100 cards, 30 of them new to Magic, and two Traditional Foil legends, one with borderless art. The decklists are not out yet; each deck gets the full EDHcheck analysis, power level and bracket as soon as Wizards publishes them.

Marvel: Darkhold Destiny Commander Precons

Marvel: Darkhold Destiny is the April 2027 Universes Beyond set from Wizards of the Coast and Marvel, and the first built around a story written for Magic rather than adapted from the comics. It brings four Commander precons from the mystical side of the Marvel Universe: Lords of Hel with Hela, Midnight Sons with Blade, Gods of Asgard with Thor, and Strange Academy with Doctor Strange. The set releases on April 9, 2027, and is available for preorder now.

Each deck is a ready-to-play 100-card Commander deck, and a Collector's Edition version of each comes in Surge Foil. The decklists and commander cards have not been published yet. This page will carry all four lists the day they are, each one analysed for power level, WotC bracket and how fast it wins.

Which Darkhold Destiny precon should you pick?

Going by the packaging, the four decks cover four very different ways to play. Lords of Hel is black-red sacrifice with a steady supply of tokens to sacrifice. Midnight Sons is white-black Vampires and lifegain that spends its life total as a resource. Gods of Asgard is red-green-white and rewards creatures with power 4 or greater, the most combat-focused of the four. Strange Academy is white-blue-black spellcasters that blink in and out to repeat their enters-the-battlefield effects, the grindiest of the set.

If you like winning through combat, Gods of Asgard is the natural pick. If you prefer an engine you assemble and then ride, look at Lords of Hel or Strange Academy. Midnight Sons sits in between, with a lifegain engine that turns into board control. The real answer depends on the commanders, so check back when they are revealed and compare the four analyses side by side.
