Lorwyn Eclipsed — When the Aurora Fades
Lorwyn Eclipsed revisits one of Magic's most beloved planes — the idyllic, storybook world of Lorwyn — as the mysterious Aurora that cycles the plane between its light Lorwyn state and dark Shadowmoor state undergoes a dramatic transformation. Two Commander decks represent the plane's divergent magical forces: Dance of the Elements celebrates Lorwyn's elemental evoke tradition through Ashling, while Blight Curse explores the darker blight magic emerging in the eclipsed state through Auntie Ool.
The set mechanically evolved the Evoke mechanic that debuted in original Lorwyn, now adding a new dimension where evoked creatures can be copied rather than simply sacrificed — creating powerful chain reactions of elemental energy. This evolution rewards players who love sacrifice-based value engines while honoring the original Lorwyn's design philosophy of elegant creature abilities.
Dance of the Elements — Ashling's Boundless Potential
Ashling, the Limitless commands all five colors in a dance of elemental evoke magic that turns every sacrifice into a wave of new possibilities. The deck's core loop revolves around evoking powerful elemental creatures — paying their lower evoke cost — then copying the evoke trigger rather than letting it simply resolve, extracting maximum value before the creature's temporary existence ends.
Five-color access gives Dance of the Elements an enormous card pool to draw from. Every powerful elemental across Magic's history becomes a potential inclusion, from Mulldrifter and Shriekmaw to the newest Lorwyn Eclipsed Elementals. The deck rewards players who can sequence their evoke chains optimally, extracting draw triggers, removal, and board presence from the same creatures in a single sequence of actions.
Ashling herself scales with the number of elements invoked — her power grows each time you evoke a creature or use a sacrifice outlet, creating a feedback loop between the Commander's personal power and the deck's core strategy. Dance of the Elements suits players who enjoy complex interaction chains and the satisfaction of converting temporary resources into permanent board advantage.
Blight Curse — Auntie Ool's Spreading Corruption
Auntie Ool, Cursewretch runs a Jund (black/red/green) deck built around the new Blight mechanic — distributing -1/-1 counters to opponents' creatures while drawing cards from the pain of others. Each time Blight spreads, Auntie Ool's position strengthens: opponents' creatures shrink, die, and provide resources that fuel increasingly aggressive plays.
The Jund color combination provides perfect tools for a -1/-1 counter strategy. Black contributes the core counter-spreading effects and card draw from opponents' pain, red adds aggressive punisher effects and direct damage to creatures weakened by blight, and green provides creature density to ensure Auntie Ool has bodies to protect her while the curse does its work.
Blight Curse rewards patience and incremental pressure. The opening turns feel quiet — a counter here, a point of damage there — but by the midgame, opponents' boards are severely diminished and Auntie Ool's card advantage has built a commanding position. The deck suits players who prefer grinding opponents down through accumulated small advantages rather than explosive combo turns.
