The Lengthening Night

Innistrad: Midnight Hunt presents a plane under threat as the days grow shorter and the nights grow dangerously long. Two Commander precons represent the plane's two sides: the human communities using coven magic to fight back the darkness, and the undead armies that grow more powerful with each passing night.

Coven Counters — The Human Alliance

Leinore, Autumn Sovereign, leads Selesnya (white/green) humans in a +1/+1 counter synergy deck that harnesses the coven mechanic — which activates when you control three or more creatures with different power values. The deck distributes counters across multiple creatures to maintain diverse power values, unlocking coven bonuses while building an increasingly powerful board.

The coven condition rewards building a diverse team rather than a uniform one, creating interesting deckbuilding tension between synergy and diversity. Leinore's ability to spread counters ensures the coven requirement can be maintained even as the board state evolves.

Undead Unleashed — Rise of the Rotcleaver

Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver, commands a Dimir (blue/black) zombie deck where zombie deaths create Decayed tokens — zombies that can attack once before dying. The Decayed tokens themselves die after attacking, but each token's death creates more resources through Wilhelt's triggered card draw, fueling the engine that creates the next wave of decayed undead.

The deck's circular economy — creating Decayed zombies, attacking with them, drawing cards when they die, using those cards to create more zombies — captures the inevitability of Innistrad's undead hordes. Players who enjoy sacrifice-and-recursion engines will find Undead Unleashed particularly satisfying as the zombie engine assembles and becomes self-sustaining.
