Aetherdrift Commander — Race Across the Multiverse
Aetherdrift introduced one of Magic's most unique settings: an interplanar Grand Prix racing series that sweeps competitors across multiple planes in increasingly dangerous stages. The Aetherdrift Commander decks capture this racing spirit through two fundamentally different competitive philosophies — Eternal Might's relentless aggressive charge and Living Energy's technological sprint powered by aetheric innovation.
Both decks reward proactive, forward-moving strategies that match the racing theme's emphasis on momentum and resource management under pressure. The set mechanically introduced vehicle and racing-adjacent cards that incentivize players to attack often and attack efficiently, creating Commander decks that are more aggressive than typical precon offerings.
Eternal Might — Naktamun's Undying Warriors
Temmet, Naktamun's Will channels Amonkhet's eternal warrior culture into an Esper (white/blue/black) Zombie and token strategy that races opponents through relentless board pressure. Temmet rewards creating token copies of your creatures, generating additional warriors that attack with vigilance and menace — reflecting the Eternal warriors' unwavering march toward victory.
The Esper color combination gives the deck exceptional tools for its aggressive plan. White provides anthem effects and lifelink to sustain the aggression, black supplies removal and card advantage through life payment, and blue adds counterspells and card filtering to maintain the early advantage. Together they create a midrange-aggressive shell that applies pressure while disrupting opponents' defensive plays.
Eternal Might's racing metaphor runs through its mechanical design: every turn you're not attacking is a turn wasted, and Temmet's token generation rewards committing to a board-wide assault rather than incremental development. The deck suits players who prefer establishing an early lead and converting that advantage into an inevitable win through sustained pressure.
Living Energy — Saheeli's Aetheric Masterwork
Saheeli, Radiant Creator brings the creative genius of Kaladesh's most innovative artificer to the Aetherdrift Grand Prix in a Temur (blue/red/green) energy-and-artifact-copy deck. Saheeli's signature ability — creating token copies of artifacts whenever you accumulate enough energy — transforms the deck into a self-replicating machine that exponentially increases its own resource generation.
The energy loop creates a satisfying resource management puzzle. Early turns focus on deploying efficient energy generators: artifact creatures, enchantments, and spells that build energy counters passively. Once a sufficient threshold is reached, Saheeli converts that energy into token copies of your most powerful artifacts, which themselves generate more energy, which funds more copies, creating a chain reaction of technological innovation.
Green's access to ramp and large creatures gives the deck reach that pure artifact strategies sometimes lack. Blue provides the card selection and counterspells necessary to assemble the right combination of artifacts, and red contributes the aggressive artifacts and hasty threats that make the deck's copied creatures threatening from the moment they enter. Living Energy suits players who enjoy building complex engines and watching them generate overwhelming advantage through recursive cycles.
